Overcomer (Affirm/Sony Pictures Entertainment) will be released August 23. The faith based film and the sixth from the Kendrick Brothers (Alex and Stephen Kendrick) stars Priscilla Shirer (War Room), Holly A. Morris (Sleepless, Stranger Things), Aryn Wright-Thompson (War Room), Kendrick Cross (The 5th Wave, Iron Man 3) Cameron Arnett (Stand Your Ground) and Alex Kendrick (War Room, Fireproof, Courageous).
In addition to starring in Overcomer, Alex Kendrick directed the movie. He and his brother Stephen also scripted Overcomer. In the film, Alex plays John Harrison, a high school basketball coach whose team falls apart due to some unforeseen circumstances of the town. Harrison ends up having to coach in a sport he never taught before, with an unlikely team. The unlikely champion is Aryn Wright-Thompson’s character, Hannah. The reluctant teenage Hannah is a cross-country runner who ironically suffers from asthma. She goes through a process where she learns to believe in her-self, and grow stronger in her faith. Self-confidence is something many teens struggle with today and Overcomer give them the inspiration they need.
