Denzel Washington stars in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven. The movie opened in the number one box office position, pulling in approximately $35 million and entered week number two in the number two position with box office receipts of $62 million.
A 2016 re-boot of the 1960 classic American Western, The Magnificent Seven also stars Chris Pratt (Guardians of The Galaxy) as Josh Farrady. Oscar winner Washington (The Equalizer, Training Day) plays bounty hunter Sam Chisolm who puts together a crew of mercenaries and outlaws to help rid the town of Rose Creek of controlling, ruthless, industrialist Bartholomew Bogue played by Peter Sarsgarrd (Experimenter). Haley Bennett (Emma Cullen) (The Girl On The Train) is the townspeople’s representative who seeks help from Washington and his band of misfits to fend off a violent take-over of Rose Creek by Bogue who has taken control of the town to seize its valuable resources. As things unravel, Washington and his team of guns-for-hire soon realize that the fight is about way more than money.
Rounding out the cast is Ethan Hawke (Goodnight Robicheaux), Vincent D’Onofrio (Jack Horne), Byung-Hun Lee (Billy Rocks), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Vasquez), and Martin Sensmeier (Red Harvest).
Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer, The Replacement Killers) directed the 2 hour and 13 minutes long film. It was produced by Roger Birnbaum and Todd Black. Fuqua also served as executive producer along with Walter Mirisch, Bruce Berman and Waisbren. The screenplay was written by Nic Pizzolatto and Richard Wenk.
