Academy Award winner Denzel Washington and Academy Award nominee Viola Davis star in Paramount Pictures’ Fences. It is a powerful film adaptation of the late playwright and screenwriter August Wilson’s 1983 Tony Award winning play. Washington and Davis also starred in the 2010 revival of the Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway production of Fences.
Fences is the story of Troy Maxon, a struggling African American father (Denzel Washington) and former Negro Baseball League star facing hard times as a garbage collector and the challenges of a segregated society, socio-economic issues, being a husband and father, and all the pitfalls life had waiting for a man of color in 1950s Pittsburgh. Viola Davis stars as Washington’s wife, Rose Maxon, standing beside him through all of his struggles and often catching the fall out from her husband’s frustrations with life in a racist, unfair society.
Denzel Washington not only stars in Fences, he also served as the film’s director. Rounding out the film’s cast is Jovan Adepo, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson and Christopher Mele.
Fences opened nationwide in theaters on Christmas Day 2016. It is rated PG-13 for language and thematic elements. Fences is one film you’ve got to see.
