Best Man Holiday Gets Big Numbers Opening Weekend

Fox Searchlight’s The Best Man Holiday was a big hit at the box office this past weekend bringing in an estimated $30 million.  According to boxofficemojo.com’s weekend report,  Malcolm D. Lee’s romantic comedy came in second only to Thor, which raked in over $38 million bringing its ten-day total to an estimated $147 million.

The Best Man Holiday is a sequel to the 1999 original The Best Man.  The first Best Man brought in only $9 million.  So the fact that The Best Man Holiday tripled those opening numbers is sure to make the studio heads in Hollywood stand up and take notice because the flick carried it off with a predominately African American cast and director, putting old stereotypes to shame that say African American movies can’t draw in the audience and make the big bucks at the box office.

The movie features original cast members Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Monica Calhoun and Melissa De Sousa who reprised their roles.

The Best Man Holiday is a movie romantic comedy fans should make it their business to see.
