Actress Imani Hakim from Everybody Hates Chris Levels Up in New Season of Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest

Actress Imani Hakim is leveling up in the newest season of Apple TV+’s, Mythic Quest. Known for her roles in Everybody Hates Chris and Lifetime’s  “The Gabby Douglas Story,” Hakim stars as Dana, an ambitious game tester-turned-developer. Hakim’s rising role in Mythic Quest emboldens a diverse cast, including Danny Pudi and Charlotte Nicdao, while shifting the show towards new horizons. Streaming now on AppleTV+, season 4 highlights Hakim’s character as she explores entrepreneurship as a woman, an African-American, and a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

Produced by Jeff Luini and Chris Smirnoff, Mythic Quest centers around the employees of a video game developing company in Montreal, Canada. Originally airing in 2020, the show presented Hakim’s character, Dana, as a young video game tester with no recurring plot line besides her romantic feelings for her co-worker, Rachel. However, the latest season focuses on her departure from the Mythic Quest developer team as she creates a video game empire of her own.

In an interview with Rival Magazine, The wife and new mom expresses that this show-changing development comes as a result of working with show writers to actualize Dana’s diverse identity,

“Dana was written very differently on the page initially and the writers and I sort of built her together as the episodes progressed,” Hakim said.We had to discover Dana’s desire outside of just QA testing or being Rachel’s love interest…Who is she as a person? We get to see this young woman with huge dreams and aspirations, and she’s a bit unapologetic about it.”

Since the show’s conception, Hakim has gone from a side character to a plot mover in a turn of empowering writing. She now portrays a black woman excelling in her profession and feels her role embodies how she’d like to be represented as an African-American woman in the public eye, “With Dana, I love that this is a young Black woman operating in this predominantly male-dominated space without her Blackness being the main topic of conversation”, Hakim said. “We want to see more human behavior, human stories, human romance, human experiences, and they happen to be Black.”

Tune in to see Imani Hakim take over the screen in Season 4 of Mythic Quest! Streaming now on Apple TV+.
