“12 Years A Slave “walked away with the award for Best Motion Picture – Drama at the Golden Globe Awards Sunday night in Beverly Hills, Ca.
The film tied with “American Hustle,” for most nominations, 7, going into the awards show. However, “12 Years A Slave,” a drama inspired by the true story of Solomon Northrup, an upstate New York free man in the 1800s who was tricked and sold into slavery, only walked away with one for the night. “American Hustle” was the evening’s big winner with three Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical. Surprisingly, “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” didn’t even make the nominees list.
According to the LA Times, it really got down to the wire for “12 Years A Slave.” It seemed as though the Steve McQueen directed film had been snubbed until the very end of the show when it won for Best Motion Picture – Drama.
Congratulations to Steve McQueen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt (also producer), Benedict Cumberbatch, Sarah Paulson, Alfre Woodard, Paul Giamatti, Michael K. White, Sarah Paulson, Paul Dano, Adepero Oduye and the cast and crew of “12 Years a Slave.” Click here to see the list of winners.
Now let’s see what happens at the SAG Awards (January 18, 2014) and the Academy Awards (March 2, 2014).
